Description:

Erect subshrubs, up to 70 cm high. Leaves alternate, nearly leathery, oblanceolate or oblong-oblanceolate, 10-15 cm long, 2.5-3 cm wide, entire, glabrous above, initially densely brown villose beneath; petioles c. 1 cm long, villose. Racemes many-flowered, at leaf traces of the lower part of stem, up to 8 cm long; flowers yellow, pedicels to 3 cm long, pendulous; tubes strong curved at middle, saccate at lower part, 1.5-2.5 cm long, the upper part of perianth-tube curved again and expanded into a 5-6-toothed limb; stamens 6, anthers oblong; gynostemium 3-lobed at apex; ovary densely villose. Capsule obovoid, 3-5 cm long, 2-2.5 cm in diam, hexagonous, densely tomentose.

Distribution:

Wong Nei Chung Gap, Lantau Island. Guangdong (Zhuhai).

Habitat and Ecology:

Growing in thickets, bamboo groves and stone crevices on hill-slopes or near seasides. Flowering & fruiting: Mar.-Sept.

The colourful and strange-shaped flower make this species an attractive ornamental plant. In Hong Kong, some localities of its occurrence are in Country Parks under protection. Ex-situ conservation measures could be explored.
