Description:
Evergreen small trees. Young shoots, petioles and nerves red. Leaves alternate or whorled at apex of branch; leaf blade elliptic to broad-obovate elliptic, 11-26 cm long and 5-12 cm wide, apex acute, glaucous abaxially, triplinerved; lateral veins arcuately linked at end; transverse veins raised on both surfaces. Plant dioecious. Flowers unisexual; umbels 5 to many flowered, aggregated at leaf axils or lateral on branches. Perianth lobes 4, ovate or ovate-orbicular, 3.5 mm long. Male flower: fertile stamens 6, in 3 whorls, the third whorl stamens with 2 glands at base; female flower with 6 staminodes. Drupe globose, 15-16 mm in diam.
Distribution:
Sunset Peak, Shek Uk Shan, Tai Mo Shan. Guangdong, Guangxi (Lingyun County).
Habitat and Ecology:
In secondary forest of mountains. Flowering: Mar.-Apr.; fruiting: Aug.-Oct.
This species is relatively rare in Hong Kong, but the localities of its occurrence are within Country Parks under protection.
